Why I’m Drawn to Nontraditional Weddings

Some love stories are louder than that.
Messier than that.
More emotional. More cinematic. More alive.

That’s why I’ve always been deeply drawn to nontraditional weddings.

The couples who throw away expectations.

The couples who wear black.

The couples who care more about feeling something than performing perfection.

The couples who create a wedding day that actually reflects who they are instead of what they think it’s supposed to look like.

Those are the stories that inspire me most as an artist.

Because to me, photography has never been about perfection.

It has always been about honesty.

My Biggest Inspiration that Created my style was Music

A huge part of my visual inspiration actually came from music.

Specifically, My Chemical Romance and the visual storytelling created by Gerard Way.

Growing up, I was captivated by the darkness in their art … not darkness in a hopeless sense, but darkness that revealed something real underneath it.

Their visuals felt emotional, theatrical, imperfect, human.

There was beauty in the chaos.
Beauty in sadness.
Beauty in vulnerability.
Beauty in the raw reality of being alive.

That changed the way I viewed art forever.

My Iconic Look Inspired by Gerard Way

What has always inspired me about Gerard Way is that he never created art to fit comfortably into expectations.

Whether through music, visuals, storytelling, or emotion, his work always felt unapologetically honest

dark when it needed to be dark, vulnerable when it needed to be vulnerable, and beautiful because of its rawness rather than in spite of it.

As a creative myself, I connect deeply to that mindset.

Photography for me is not about creating something perfectly polished just to be consumed quickly. It’s about making people feel something real.

Like Gerard Way, I’m drawn to emotion, atmosphere, imperfection, and the kind of art that stays with people long after they’ve experienced it.

Documentary Photography and Alternative Weddings Belong Together

I think documentary-style photography naturally fits nontraditional weddings because both value authenticity over perfection.

I never want couples to feel like they have to transform into a polished version of themselves for the camera.

I want them to feel seen exactly as they are.

The awkward laughter.
The nerves.
The chaos.
The intimacy.
The stillness.
The wildness.

All of it matters.

A wedding gallery should not feel like a styled photoshoot pretending to be a wedding day.

It should feel like memory.
Like emotion.
Like art pulled from real life!

That’s what inspires me most about documentary photography preserving the feeling instead of manufacturing it.

“Your love does not need to look traditional to be timeless.”

For the Couples Who Feel Different

The most unforgettable weddings are the ones that feel personal. Intentional. Unapologetically authentic.

I want couples to know they do not need to water themselves down to have beautiful wedding photographs.

Your love does not need to look traditional to be timeless.

Sometimes the most breathtaking art comes from embracing what makes your story different in the first place.
